Commemorative Diploma
of the Centenary of the Transpolar Flight Umberto Nobile and the Airship "Norge"
May 12, 1926 – May 12, 2026: 100 years since the North Pole flyby

The Italian Radio Amateurs Association, Palma Campania Section "Antonio Prisco IZ8EKL" A.P.S., is organizing, from May 10, 2026 to May 20, 2026, the:
Commemorative Diploma for the Centenary of the Polar Flight of Umberto Nobile and the Airship "Norge" (1926–2026)
The event celebrates the 100th anniversary (May 12, 1926–May 12, 2026) of the legendary flight of the North Pole by Engineer Umberto Nobile aboard the airship "Norge."

A Bit of History:
Engineer Umberto Nobile was born in Lauro (AV) on January 21, 1885, and died in Rome on July 30, 1978. After graduating from the "Giambattista Vico" high school in Naples in 1902, he graduated with honors in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering in 1908, also obtaining a diploma in electrical engineering that same year.
In 1911, Nobile began his aviation career by attending a course in aeronautical construction at the Military Engineers Battalion in Rome, the nucleus from which the Royal Air Force would emerge. A prominent figure and pioneer of flight, his name was inextricably linked to the history of polar exploration thanks to two historic airship flights:
1926: The legendary first flight of the North Pole aboard the airship Norge.
1928: The expedition with the airship Italia, which ended tragically with the crash into the polar ice cap and the famous "Red Tent" epic.
The Municipality of Lauro keeps the memory of its illustrious fellow citizen alive: in addition to his birthplace, since 2019 it has been possible to visit the Umberto Nobile Museum, entirely dedicated to him.
2026 marks a milestone of fundamental importance: the centenary of the flight of the North Pole aboard the airship Norge, an anniversary that this diploma intends to honor and celebrate through amateur radio activity.

REGULATION

Beginning:
May 10, 2026, at 00:00 UTC (02:00 Italian time) and ending May 20, 2026, at 23:59 UTC (01:59 Italian time).

Participants:
The award is open to all amateur radio operators and SWLs worldwide.

Stations:
The following activating stations will be active during the event:
1. IQ8TJ: Callsign of the ARI Palma Campania Section;
2. II8NOBI: Special callsign activated by members of the ARI Palma Campania Section;
3. Callsigns of the ARI Campania Sections participating in the award ceremony with their Section callsign.
This regulation, along with the updated list of activating stations, will be published on the ARI Palma Campania Section website www.aripalmacampania.it. The regulation will also be published on Radio Rivista.
The award ceremony will be managed by the HAMAWARD platform.

Bands:
the 9 HF bands assigned to the Amateur Radio Service: 80, 60, 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10 metres, with the limitations set by current regulations, in particular for the power that can be used on the 60-metre band.

Modes of emission:
SSB, CW and the following Digital Modes (limited to FT4, FT8 and RTTY; other digital modes will not be considered valid)

Qso:
Each activating station can only work once per day for each band and each mode. Any QSOs made on the same day, on the same band and/or mode will be considered "duplicates."
After the first recorded QSO, each activating station must operate on the same band and in the same mode for at least 10 minutes.

Call:
SSB: CQ CQ CQ "One Hundred Years of the Norge Airship"
CW and DIGITAL: "CQ NOBILE”

Reports:
RS(T) ratio only

Objective:
Make as many contacts as possible with:
• the IQ8… callsigns of the Ari Campane Section
• the special callsign II8NOBI

Score:
For diploma hunters, the activators, as listed, will give and receive the following points:
• 1 point for each QSO in each digital mode (FT4, FT8, and RTTY);
• 2 points for each QSO in SSB
• 3 points for each QSO in CW
• 2 points for each QSO in each digital mode (FT4, FT8, and RTTY) with the special callsign II8NOBI
• 2 points for each QSO in SSB with the special callsign II8NOBI
• 3 points for each QSO in CW with the special callsign II8NOBI

Total score:
It is given by the overall sum of the individual QSO scores

To obtain the diploma, participants must have:
• 100 points for the Basic Diploma
• 200 points for the Silver Diploma
• 300 points for the Gold Diploma
Cumulative in the above frequency bands

The following general rankings will be drawn up:
• IQ Trigger Stations for each Mode and Band.
• Hunters for each Mode and Band;
• SWL.

A PDF diploma will be available for download from the HAMAWARD platform.
Stations that do not achieve the minimum score will still be able to download a certificate of participation from the HAMAWARD platform.

LOG:
Participants are not required to submit any logs.
All logs from participating stations will be uploaded to the HAMAWARD website. The score achieved by each participating station will be automatically published in real time on the HAMAWARD platform.

h) 1st Place, SWL Category “General Ranking” => Plaque

In addition to being published on the Hamaward website, the rankings will also be published on Radio Rivista.
For the prizes referred to in points a), b), c), d), and h), the eligible participants will be contacted by the Award Manager of the ARI Palma Campania section for prize collection and/or shipping.

DIPLOMA ON-LINE:
n addition to the ranking with prizes, at the end of the event it will be possible to download the "classified diploma" in electronic format from the HAMAWARD platform

eQSL:
During and after the event it will be possible to download the eQSL of each QSO made through the HAMAWARD platform.

Hamaward:
All activators will be registered on the Hamaward platform for Award management and agree to avoid using unattended transmission systems. Hunters are invited to register on the website www.hamaward.cloud to check their QSOs and location in real time, as well as to download the Award and electronic QSL cards.
